About me<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Many of the questions that occupy me most have no simple answers.<\/p>

They arise where pain, ageing, cancer, quality of life, animal welfare, and the relationship between animals and the people who care for them intersect.<\/p>

What interests me is not only which disease an animal has, but what that disease means for its everyday life. How it changes movement, behaviour, relationships, joy, independence, and ultimately quality of life.<\/p>

For me, that is where good veterinary medicine begins.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

My journey<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

My career began in veterinary neurology, both in clinical practice and research, before taking me through a wide range of areas within small animal medicine \u2014 from a university referral hospital and emergency medicine to first-opinion practice and eventually my own clinic, with an increasing focus on pain management.<\/p>

Each stage broadened my perspective.<\/p>

It taught me to look beyond individual symptoms, to recognise the complexity behind clinical presentations, and to see every medical decision within the context of an individual animal's life.<\/p>

Today, I no longer see diseases simply as diagnoses, but as part of a story that every animal experiences in its own unique way.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

What Inspires My Work Today<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Today I work primarily with dogs and cats living with chronic pain, osteoarthritis, neurological disease, age-related conditions and those approaching the end of life.<\/p>

Over the years, however, my interests have expanded beyond individual diseases.<\/p>

Increasingly, I find myself asking a broader question:<\/p>

What makes a good life for an animal?<\/strong><\/p>

Pain is part of the answer.<\/p>

Ageing is part of the answer.<\/p>

Cancer is part of the answer.<\/p>

So too are behaviour, mobility, environment, relationships, care, and the decisions made by the people who share an animal's life.<\/p>

For that reason, I am interested not only in diagnoses, but in the wider connections between health, welfare and quality of life.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Alongside my clinical work, I serve as Lead Veterinary Advisor for Agria Vet Guide Germany and contribute to the Agria Breed Profiles.<\/p>

This work allows me to collaborate with population-based health data from one of the world's largest canine health databases.<\/p>

I am fascinated by how large-scale data can reveal patterns that benefit not only individual patients, but entire populations.<\/p>

          Pain medicine, geriatrics, oncology, palliative care and animal welfare are not separate disciplines. To me, they are different ways of exploring the same question:<\/p>

          This belief is the foundation of For Them \u2014 a project currently in development that aims to bring together clinical experience, scientific evidence and ethical reflection to support veterinarians, animal owners and everyone involved in the care of animals.
